Comoros tours: three options to compare
Bookable Comoros tours are still few. This guide lists three that exist: a guided hike on the Karthala volcano, a day trip in northern Grande Comore and an eight-day itinerary linking the three islands. They suit very different trips, from a demanding day on foot to a full island-hopping route.
Prices change and are not repeated here. Check the price, dates and cancellation terms on each listing before you book.

Our take: Comoros tours

What each tour includes
The three options, with what each listing states and what it leaves out.
Guided Mount Karthala hike
An 8-hour outing with a local guide, hotel pickup and drop-off. It does not promise safety and does not say every group reaches the crater: effort and weather decide. Read the page on Mount Karthala first.
Mount Karthala โNorthern Grande Comore day trip
An 8-hour day starting at the operator's office in the Mtsangani district of Moroni. It includes lunch, fees and taxes, a licensed guide in English or French and an air-conditioned vehicle. There is no hotel pickup, and the listing does not describe a city tour of Moroni.
Grande Comore โEight days across three islands
The programme covers Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli. It includes a visit to the medina and citadel of Mutsamudu (lunch not included), sea turtle observation at Itsamia, village walks, a visit to an ylang-ylang farm and the local flights and boats listed in the itinerary. No reviews have been published yet.
Things to do โChoosing between a day, a hike and an itinerary
A few pointers for deciding.
If you are short on time and fit, the Karthala hike is the most memorable Comoros tour and also the most demanding. A local operator describes its own version as an on-foot day from Mvouni lasting 12 hours. That is operator planning, not a standard hiking time, and it does not apply to the 8-hour listing above.
If you would rather see landscapes and villages without a big physical effort, the northern day trip is easier to fit in, provided you can reach the meeting point in Moroni yourself. The eight-day itinerary suits people who want all three islands without arranging the connections on their own.
To compare seasons before you pick a date, read the best time to visit the Comoros. Cyclones are possible from January to May and the wet season runs from November to May according to the tourism office.
Before you book a tour
Three checks that avoid unpleasant surprises.
Inter-island links do not come with reliable timetables. If you are leaving Grande Comore for Anjouan or Moheli, keep a buffer, confirm your flights or boats and avoid kwassa-kwassa boats, which France advises against. The getting there page covers the options.
For any mountain outing, ask your guide and your embassy about the volcano's current situation, and keep official travel advice in view: the United States rates the country at level 2, exercise increased caution. Entry rules, including the visa on arrival, are explained on the safety and visa page.
Finally, neither the Karthala hike nor the northern day trip includes an airport transfer, so arrange a taxi or a pre-booked transfer before you land. Only the eight-day itinerary lists airport and port transfers.
