Where to Stay in Comoros: Hotels and Lodges on Each Island

Before choosing among Comoros hotels, know the three lodging types and check payment and transfers before you arrive.

  • Checked tours on all three islands
  • Flights, visas and safety explained
  • Island by island: Grande Comore, Anjouan, Moheli

Choosing among Comoros hotels

The tourism office separates three families of lodging: modern seaside accommodation, traditional guesthouses and nature-focused ecolodges. Island directories list hotels and inns on Grande Comore and Anjouan, and lodges and inns on Moheli.

We recommend no brand. Current prices, star ratings, tourist taxes and cancellation terms are not documented, and we found no general guarantee for electricity, water or wifi. Ask the property directly.

Our take: a trip from the Moroni office

This trip leaves from the operator's office in Moroni, not from your hotel; it suits you if you stay in the capital.

Hand-picked tours, booked through Viator. Prices are indicative starting prices in US dollars (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

Moroni hotels and the rest of Grande Comore

Most travellers sleep first in Moroni, the capital, which is handy for arrival and first errands. To place the city, read Moroni. One misleading name: the Jardin de la Paix is a hotel restaurant in the Ambassadeur district, not a public park.

To explore from the island, Grande Comore describes the north and Karthala. Hotel pickup depends on the operator and the area, so give your address when you book an excursion.

Anjouan and Moheli

On Anjouan, directories list hotels and inns. On Moheli, they highlight lodges and inns, generally closer to nature. No availability or price range is confirmed for these islands. To plan moves between islands, see getting there, which explains why connections should be checked before you lock in a night.

What to confirm before booking

US authorities note limited card acceptance. Ask whether the property takes cards or only cash, and in which currency. Confirm the airport transfer, since it is not automatic. Also get cancellation terms in writing, plus electricity, water and rules for children. Do not trust an undated "from" price, and ask for the total in writing, including any fees the property adds at check-out.

Comparing without published rates

With no reference prices, compare by criteria: location, payment method, transfer, cancellation terms and distance to the sights you want to see. Write to several properties with your dates and ask for a priced quote in the currency you prefer.

If your trip mixes several islands, avoid booking every night in advance until the connections are confirmed. Keep room for changes of plan, and ask each property how it handles late arrivals, since flight times can shift and a night paid in advance may be hard to recover.

Electricity, water and connection

No source confirms continuous electricity, water or wifi, whatever the type of lodging. Ask whether the property has a generator, whether hot water is reliable and whether the connection works in the rooms. Carry a power bank and keep important documents on you.

For ecolodges and guesthouses, also ask how far the nearest village is and how to get there. An isolated property often needs a transfer arranged in advance.

Matching the lodging to your plans

If you come mainly for the volcano or the north, a base in or near Moroni keeps journeys short. If you want quiet and nature, a lodge or guesthouse may suit you better, but it will usually mean more planning for meals and transport. Read is the Comoros safe for entry rules and cautions that can shape where you sleep.
